1947 Supersonic Flight

Image
Event that changed the world 1947 - The first faster-than-sound flight. Petikan air and space - link : On October 14, 1947, the Bell X-1 Glamorous Glennis,  piloted by U.S. Air Force Captain Charles E. “Chuck” Yeager, became the first airplane to fly faster than the speed of sound (Mach 1). The experimental purpose-built aircraft reached 1,127 kilometers (700 miles) per hour (Mach 1.06). Petikan britannica - link : Supersonic flight vs hypersonic flight. Supersonic flight , passage through the air at speed greater than the local velocity of sound. The speed of sound  (Mach 1) varies with atmospheric pressure  and temperature.  In air at a temperature of 15 °C (59 °F) and sea-level pressure, sound travels at about 1,225 km (760 miles) per hour. At speeds beyond about five times the velocity of sound (Mach 5), the term  hypersonic flight  is employed. Jualan ikan di Harrods - - - - -
