Petikan akhbar indonesia ( link ): Kita dapat membaca pengalaman Ludovico Bartema, “tuan terhormat dari Roma” yang bepergian ke Mekah pada tahun 1503, sebagaimana dicatat oleh Augustus Ralli di dalam bukunya Christians at Mecca (1909). Bartema mengungkapkan bahwa perjalanannya ke Mekah ditemani oleh ”rasa lapar dan haus, cuaca dingin dan panas, peperangan, tawanan, dan ketakutan-ketakutan”.
