In Greek mythology, the Labyrinth of Crete was an elaborate, inescapable maze designed by Daedalus at Knossos. The Maze is for King Minos to imprison the Minotaur, a half-man, half-bull monster.
The hero Theseus famously killed the beast and escaped using a ball of thread provided by Ariadne. It symbolizes a legendary, dangerous puzzle, with possible roots in the complex, sprawling palace of the Minoan civilization.
King Minos commissioned the Labyrinth to hide the Minotaur, which was born from his wife Pasiphaƫ and a Cretan bull. The Minotaur is a monster that fed on humans, specifically Athenian youths demanded as tribute to satisfy Minos.
