Kenapa ada Delft Island di Sri Lanka?
It was the Dutch who named the island after the City of Delft in the Netherlands and the name remains to this day in common usage though in current official records the island is known as Neduntivu.
The island was named after the Dutch city of Delft by Rijckloff van Goens. He named the eight most important islands after Dutch cities.
Delft Island is named by the Dutch ruler Rijckloff van Goens after a famous city of Holland and apparently he has named eight of the islands in the Palk Strait off Jaffna peninsula according to famous Dutch cities. But only Delft remains famous with the old name among the locals despite the new name “Nedunthivu”.
